The east portal with the live line to the left. A happy customer inside the eastern portal. Some serious reinforcing in there consisting of both lateral and longitudinal ribbing. Looking back to the east portal from about half way in. The trussed roof is clearly seen. This troublesome tunnel opened in 1834 on what is always quoted as the 'world's first cross country railway' - what about the Liverpool and Manchester?

Close up of more trussing. It is quite a complex bespoke designed support system. John and Tom heading west. Looking to the west portal. Inside the west portal. The west portal from outside.
